I’ve said it before, and this time won’t be the last: I love knitting hats!
I’ve been knitting quite a bit as of late. The return of cooler weather has definitely brought my mojo back with it. Also, I’ve discovered, I really love doing colorwork. As you may recall, I started my first foray in to stranded colorwork a few weeks ago. I’ve since finished knitting not one, but two Atwater hats, because I loved it so much and I had plenty of yarn leftover. I absolutely adore these hats! My son has even claimed the red one for himself, he has been wearing it all day, everyday. It’s a little big on him, but he doesn’t seem to mind. I want to knit all the colorwork pretties I see now, my Ravelry queue has become very colorful.
And so, because I love Sara’s Atwater hat pattern so much, I want to give one to you! However, I consider this hat to be a gateway drug in to the world of stranded colorwork and possibly even intarsia knitting, so be prepared to spend hours on Ravelry ogling all the loveliness. Speaking of pom-poms (hahaha); I love them! I know, I know…pom-poms, you either love them or hate them. I happen to love them and I just couldn’t resist adding one to my Atwater hat. I made the cream colored hat a bit slouchier (is that even a word?) and decided it would be the one to be graced with a pom-pom. I recently purchased the small and large sets of the Clover Pom-Pom makers, and I got to tell you, they are FUN! Seriously, I even had my four (almost five!) year old helping me. I made four different pom-poms trying to decide what color and size would look best, before ultimately deciding on going with the large two-color pom-pom. I’ll be tying the remaining three onto a balsam wreath for our front door once the time comes. I’m pretty sure there will be more pom-pom making taking place soon, as I fully intend to hang some on our tree this year. What a great use of scraps! (Bonus: How many times did I type pom-pom just now?)
In other knitting news, I’ve cast on a new pair of socks using Patons Kroy Sock yarn in the Blue Striped Ragg color way. I’m doing a 3×1 rib across the top of the foot and I’ll be trying out the Fish Lips Kiss heel as well. I’m really loving how they’re knitting up, so much so that I wish I had bought the Brown Striped Ragg color way too. I think I see a trip to Michael’s in my future.
Also on the needles, is a very purple November Ruffle Wrap for my husband’s Grandmother. Who, so kindly asked if she could pay me to knit her a shawl or wrap, to which I of course replied, “Gramma’s don’t pay.” It’s knit with the yarn held double, which should make for a nice cozy wrap for her once it’s finished. I’m using Caron Simply Soft acrylic yarn, and to be honest; it’s nice for acrylic, but it’s not my favorite to knit with. It’ll be good for her needs though, easy to care for, and that’s what matters most.
In addition to all this knitting, I’ve picked back up my long languished Scrollwork hat (I cast it on way back in March!) and have been busily knitting away on the twisty cables. Such delicious cables too, I don’t know why I let it sit for so long. I’m using Marigoldjen Merino Worsted yarn in The Apple of Megan’s Eye color way, and I only have nine rounds left, in fact, I might even finish it today…I’m sure you’ll be seeing finished photos in my next post. Of course if you follow me on Instagram you’ll most likely see it before then. *wink*

Right now I’m staring at some dark purple and lime green and thinking that’d be an awesome color work hat! Of course, I’d need to have them in the same kind of yarn, so this particular match up wouldn’t work immediately!! And after seeing your hats earlier, I had favorited that pattern too! That shawl is beautiful, and looks very practical too. As for the hat, I think it might tempt even me into stranded work again (says I doing intarsia after claiming I never would). I think I’d probably use a denim blue and cream, unless I changed my mind which is entirely possible. I have some charcoal which would be lovely, if I could decide on a second colour. Ideas? My username is ghoti.

I love this pattern! The red you chose is absolutely gorgeous. I’d like to knit one in pink and gray, with a BIG pom pom on the top. I am a huge pom pom fan, too!

Hmm…I am thinking something in a champagne or latte color with PINK. IT would be my first colorwork that isn’t stripes and I think this is the BEST first project!
